A Response To Brother Warnock’s
Partial Acceptance To My Debate Offer

By Jeff Belknap

I am thankful that Weldon has come closer to the table of debate, for he has AGREED to THE PROPOSITIONS! Yet, unfortunately he has attached a mandatory PLACE to his acceptance of the propositions, where he knows I will not debate him.

Brother Warnock has known for well over a year that (for reasons detailed below) I will not debate him in or around the congregation where I now preach in Beckley, WV.

The church in Beckley is the same congregation where Weldon was the previous preacher for ten years, and he still maintains a close relationship with some of our members. Hence, it would be inexpedient to the unity of the Lord’s church in Beckley to hold the debate here, due to the personalities involved and their relationships with the local membership.

Moreover, the men of the congregation have also strongly urged me on several occasions not to debate Weldon in or near Beckley due to their same concerns regarding the unity of the congregation here. (For more detailed information, you may refer to: Brother Warnock’s Fifth & Sixth Weeks in a Row; Brother Warnock’s Seventh & Eighth Weeks in a Row; Brother Warnock’s Ninth & Tenth Weeks in a Row.)

Notice Tim’s words on his website:

“I understand that Weldon Warnock has publicly accepted to debate Jeff Belknap’s debate propositions at Beckley, WV” (emp. jhb).

However, that was not at all what I stated in my debate offer. Here is the proposal:

“Let the record reflect that I am offering the following propositions (which are harmonious with the focus of my website, as well as with the numerous documented examples of their error) for debate (oral or written) in various journals or at a location central to both participants” (emp. jhb):

(See: http://www.mentaldivorce.com/mdrstudies/WrittenDebateInvitationForVariousMen.htm)

Beckley is certainly not a location that is “central to both participants.” Since Weldon is agreeable to debate THE PROPOSITIONS I published, let us now agree upon A PLACE where it is truly possible to hold the debate. I am already working on securing A PLACE where it would be possible to host the debate. (If any readers of this document know of a willing host with the capacity to seat a large crowd, please contact me at JeffBelknap@Charter.net.)

Since I have no personal relationship with any of the brethren in Scottsville, if Weldon was agreeable, we could hold it right there in his home town. As the matter of fact, I would agree to debate Weldon on this issue in ANY CITY in the U.S. that is not near Beckley, yet where there are brethren who would be interested in attending. Will Weldon agree to debate the agreed-upon propositions with me in A PLACE that he knows is ACTUALLY POSSIBLE? I will look forward to his reply!
